Like most professional fees, ours are a function of time.
Fees can be billed on an hourly basis or on a lump sum
basis. Based on an agreed scope, we estimate time
and expenses required to complete a project by phase
in order to prepare lump sum proposals. These
proposals usually include a contingency for
expenditures out of our control. Often the best
arrangement for all concerned is an hourly arrangement
during the pre-design and schematic design phases
when the actions of the owner often determine the
schedule. Once the design is complete and the scope
is established, we can prepare a lump sum proposal for
construction documents phase in which we have more
control of the time.

Some clients take comfort in fees quoted on a square
foot basis which is figured as above and divided by the
proposed square footage.
